Getting It Done In The Bathroom
I don’t understand why no one has yet come up with a multi-media center for the bathroom. I think it would be great. I mean, technology touches almost every part of out life nowadays yet when we enter the bathroom we enter an environment that has remained virtually unchanged since the mid-1950s.
Some crazy koot at some radio making company gave it a shot once. They came out with a waterproof radio that you hang around your showerhead so you can jam to FM radio while soaping down your body. Sure, that little radio got us through some tough times of boredom in the shower, but it didn’t rock anyone’s world.
What I’d like to see is a plasma screen TV behind a waterproofed plexi-glass connected to my Dish Network and DVR along with an XM Radio tuner complete with Dolby Digital Surround Sound speakers. Why can’t we have that? The waterproofing technology is there. We have plexi-glass. All we need is one industrious sole to put such a system in his shower and sing it’s praises.
While we’re at it, I’d like a wireless internet accessible computer workstation at my toilet. I know I can read a book or a magazine or something while I’m doing what I got to do, but I get some of my best ideas in the bathroom and I don’t see why I should have to wait until I get out to start researching or distributing them. Heck, I wrote half of this blog in my mind in the bathroom. It would have been easier if I could have written it down Heck, I could have posted it! I could be downloading music, reading the daily news or emailing my friends all while doing my business.
I’m sure some people are going to think the whole idea is gross or ridiculous, but I bet a lot of people thought bathrooms IN their house was a bad idea at one time. I’m not even sure I’ve touched on all the things that could be done with a media center in the bathroom. Of course there are a few kinks to work out like soundproofing and the slight risk of electrical injuries, but there are problems with every advance in design. Mark my words, someday we will all have internet access at the toiletand heated toilet seats.
