The Houston Chronicle is reporting the Netherlands, a experienced oil producing nation, offered the United States help in dealing with the British Petroleum spill very quickly after it started, but the Obama Administration turned them down, opting instead to coordinate with BP to stop the spill and contain the damage.
If this article from Redstate is true it’s another great example of Obama driving nails into his own coffin. Why wouldn’t you take all the help you can get?
The article from the Houston Chronicle says the administration is now reconsidering the offer of help.
Now, almost seven weeks later, as the oil spewing from the battered well spreads across the Gulf and soils pristine beaches and coastline, BP and our government have reconsidered.
U.S. ships are being outfitted this week with four pairs of the skimming booms airlifted from the Netherlands and should be deployed within days. Each pair can process 5 million gallons of water a day, removing 20,000 tons of oil and sludge.
Unfortunately, waiting a month to accept the offer wasn’t exactly the smartest thing to do. The Houston Chronicle also had this to say:
The uncoordinated response to an offer of assistance has become characteristic of this disaster’s response. Too often, BP and the government don’t seem to know what the other is doing, and the response has seemed too slow and too confused.
This ignorance (arrogance?) has now created one of the worst environmental disasters in the history of this nation.
