There seems to be some confusion between what kind of argument should me made for or against same-sex marriage. The two types of arguments are moral and legal. I believe Jesus cleared the issue up when he said give to Cesar what is Cesar's. The Bible obviously states in both the OT and NT that homosexuality is morally wrong. However, one might apply the Cesar command and allow same-sex marriage because laws dealing with nsurance, social security, visitation rights, and financial transactions often require a marriage certificate or common law marriage to give certain rights. To the contrary one might argue that it is these other laws that should be changed but how could the laws be changed to discern a same sex partner from joe-smoe ambulance chaser for example. It appears to me that Cesar has created a hole in his laws and he is trying to fill it. So while the act of homosexuality is morally wrong, being able to legally marry someone of the same gender may fill a hole in Cesar's laws.
