Attention Shoppers – You’ve Just Killed Someone at the Front Entrance
Did you hear about this? Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down This is the most insane thing I’ve heard all year. I mean, I know the economy is bad and all, but at what point did saving a few bucks become more important than a person’s life?
You have to read this article to fully understand how horrible and inconceivable this story really is. These people on Long Island are lined up outside a Wal-Mart (of all places) waiting for the doors to open for the “Black Friday” sales event. But as soon as the doors began opening, the throng of people, 2000+ strong, began pushing their way into the store at all costs.
The cost was pretty high for one temporary Wal-Mart worker. An employee, a man, whose job it was to open the doors and let the customers in, was pushed to the ground and trampled to DEATH by the throng of savings minded shoppers. The Christmas spirit was strong in this group. Not only did they kill this poor man, but the force of the mass of people actually bent the metal of the doors and threatened the lives of other employees who attempted to rescue the doomed door opener.
Once the full extent of the tragedy was known, the store had to close, of course. Oh no. They couldn’t tell these people they couldn’t shop. Not this bunch who had been waiting in line for hours. Who cares that they had just trampled a man to death in their desire to be save a few bucks and be the first in a checkout line. No, these people actually REFUSED to stop shopping! The very murderers, fresh was blood on their hands (or shoes as it were), were determined to finish their shopping.
The officials and Wal-Mart execs (one assumes) eventually did the right thing and ran these people out so they could shut the store down…for a few hours. That’s right – they opened the store a few hours later. You see, nothing can stand in the way of Black Friday profits – nothing! Certainly not the death of a lowly temp worker or the hospitalization of a 28-year-old pregnant woman also injured in the events that killed the 34-year-old worker.
What have we become that we, as a people, can be so callous? What has our society become that people can actually be involved in the brutal slaying of a person and continue their CHRISTMAS shopping as if nothing were the matter? What right do these people even have to celebrate the birth of Christ? I think the actions of this grotesque mass of people after the fact speaks almost as much as the actions that caused the slaying in the first place.
I offer a very sarcastic “Merry Christmas” to a throng of selfish murderers. I hope you get everything you deserve.
